960,000 pounds of bread for the needy

According to U.S. regulations, any unsold bread must be taken off the shelves at the end of the day even if the bread is still edible. United under a common belief that good food should not go to waste, volunteers from the Tzu Chi Northwest Regional Office (located in California) began to collect leftover bread from bakeries in ten cities within the San Francisco Bay Area. The bread is then distributed to 31 different destinations including homeless shelters, low-income families, low-income community centers and schools.Read more...
